BIO:
Greetings from your friend Blarney. I hail from Texas, and my story is a sad one. My elderly owner passed away, and no one in her family wanted to take me in or provide me with any care. When animal control finally came to take me to a local shelter, I was broken-hearted, covered in fleas, and tested positive for heartworm. But then FTF came to my rescue, bringing me to the Chicago area, getting me the veterinary treatment I needed, and placing me in a wonderful foster home.
My foster mom says I charm everyone I meet with my sweetness. The words I hear most often (and that make my tail wag in joy) are, "Blarney, you're such a good boy!" I love making new human friends, both young and old, and get along fine with other pooches, especially the calm ones. Walks are one of my favorite activities. I always take the time to smell the roses and everything else with a scent (which might suggest my Lab mix includes hound). And I get excited (and pull) when I see a squirrel or rabbit. Indoors, I'm pretty laid-back and enjoy curling up on the couch with my family, being rewarded with treats, and snoozing in my comfy dog bed.
As for the basics, I'm fully potty trained and will go in a crate, though I don't need one. If you leave me uncrated when you go out, you might find I've rearranged a few household items, but I'm never destructive. While I'm recovering from heartworm treatment (fully paid for by FTF), I'll need to take it easy. But once I get a clean bill of health, I would adore having a fenced yard (minimum 5-feet high, as I can jump over lower ones) to run around in. This isn't essential, though, as long as I get plenty of exercise and walkies. One last thing you probably wanted to ask but didn't want to embarrass me: Yes, my tongue hangs out all the time because my teeth are pretty worn down. But don't worry-they chew just fine!
Summing up, I'm a gentle and loving guy hoping for a second chance at love and a forever home. Could my happy ever after be with you? If so, please fill out an adoption application right away and schedule a visit. I'll be waiting.
Love and licks,
Blarney
If you'd like to adopt this dog, please get started by filling out a complete application (incomplete submissions cannot be sent.) Please note that while we take time to learn as much as we can about each dog in our care as possible, our bios are written from current observations. Though we do our best to share as much information as possible about each dog we care for, we are unable to make any guarantees on the future health or temperament of your adopted dog. Most dogs in our care come with unknown pre-rescue history, and information pertaining to breed and age are often educated guesses.
